Share what you actually paid
Every rate on this site comes from a published tariff or rate schedule, applied to a standard household so cities can be compared fairly. That method is transparent and repeatable, but it has a real limit: it tells you what a bill should be, not what landed in your mailbox. Weather, actual usage, riders, and local fees all move the number.
Sharing a real bill helps close that gap. It takes about a minute, and only two things are required: where you live, and one bill amount with its month.
What we do with it
- Nothing is published yet — but it will be. We are gathering submissions now, and no visitor-reported figure appears anywhere on the site until a place has enough verified reports to be meaningful rather than anecdotal. Once a city clears that bar, we publish the reports on its page alongside our rate-based estimate, so anyone can see how closely published rates track what people actually pay.
- Reports are shown individually, stripped of anything identifying. Seeing the actual spread of bills is far more useful than an average alone, so we show each report as its own line: city, provider, utility, month, amount, and usage, plus any optional home details you choose to share. What we never attach is anything that points to a household — no name, no street address, no account number, no ZIP code, and no free-text comments. The home details are genuinely optional, and we flag on the form where sharing several of them at once could narrow things down in a small town.
- We never ask who you are. No name, street address, or account number — there is no field for them. Email is optional and used only to tell you when results are ready.
- Everything is reviewed. Submissions are checked before they count toward anything, and reported figures will always stay clearly separated from our tariff-based estimates. See our methodology.
