How this connects to our Waxahachie utility estimate

On our Waxahachie utility cost page, we model Oncor Electric Delivery delivery pass-throughs plus an illustrative retail supply component for competitive areas—useful for budgeting city services together. The modeled all-in electric estimate at 1,000 kWh is about $100.00 /month using our last source refresh (2026-09-30). Live REP rates you can enroll in will differ from that illustration.

Choose Texas Power’s Waxahachie page, updated September 30, 2026 for ZIP 75165, lists a marketplace average of 10.0¢/kWh at 1,000 kWh, 18.7¢ at 500 kWh, and 13.1¢ at 2,000 kWh. Oncor delivery is $4.06 per month plus 6.0295¢/kWh.

On September 15, 2025 the council adopted water and wastewater rates effective October 1, 2025. The published examples are combined with garbage: $65.92 at 0–1,500 gallons and $104.88 at 5,000 gallons. We could not retrieve a newer component schedule than Ordinance 3298 from 2021.

Trash and recycling rose to $7.05 on April 1, 2026, from about $6.23. Residents 65 and older get a 10% discount under the city code.

How to compare a Waxahachie electricity offer

  • Quote ZIP 75165 or the service address

The September 30 averages are for 75165. Confirm Oncor.

  • Treat the water and sewer split as an estimate

At 5,000 gallons we assign about $47.85 to water and $50.80 to wastewater after removing the old $6.23 garbage charge from the $104.88 combined example, using the 2021 mix of those two charges. Call utility billing for the current tariff.

  • Use $7.05 for trash

That is the April 1, 2026 residential trash and recycling rate, not the garbage amount embedded in the October 2025 combined example.

  • Check 500 kWh on the EFL

The snapshot averages 18.7¢ at 500 kWh versus 10.0¢ at 1,000 kWh.

Moving to Waxahachie

  • Confirm Oncor before you compare plans.
  • Ask utility billing for the current water and wastewater tables. Do not rely on the 2021 ordinance.
  • Budget trash at $7.05, with a 10% discount if the account holder is 65 or older.

In most cases, no. For a standard switch between competitive retail electric providers on an existing residential meter, your new provider and your transmission and distribution utility (TDU) typically coordinate the change electronically—an appointment at your home is not usually required simply to change supply companies. A technician may need access for new service, suspected meter or equipment problems, or safety-related orders from the utility; those are different from completing enrollment through a shopping or comparison flow. Your confirmation email and terms from the enrolling provider will say if anything non-routine applies. If no visit is mentioned, you can ordinarily expect the switch to proceed without someone entering your home.
