Broadband in Sun Prairie
Sun Prairie is Dane County's fastest-growing suburb east of Madison—Prairie Lakes retail, Sun Prairie Utilities water (PSC approved Nov 12, 2025), and city sewer billed monthly on water usage. Pellitteri curbside refuse/recycling is a property-tax special charge. Slug sun-prairie-wi avoids confusion with Sun Prairie, Minnesota.
Sun Prairie lists AT&T fiber at up to 5 Gbps symmetric with Spectrum cable in our I-39/90 corridor sample—typical for Epic-adjacent office parks and commuter subdivisions. MGE electric (~$199/mo at 1,000 kWh Jan 2026) and monthly water/sewer (~$77/mo combined at 5,000 gal) shape costs separately from broadband.
MGE owns the meter; Sun Prairie Utilities bills water monthly and City of Sun Prairie bills sewer on usage—refuse is tax-billed via Pellitteri. Official coverage research: FCC National Broadband Map.

How much internet speed do you need in Sun Prairie?
Headline Mbps in ads are often “up to” values. Match the plan to how many people and devices share the connection—not only the fastest number on a provider card. Upload speed matters for video calls and cloud backups.
25+ Mbps
- Web, email, HD streaming
- 1–2 devices
- Ideal for 1–2 people
100+ Mbps
- 4K streaming, online gaming, video calls
- 3–5 devices
- Ideal for 2–6 people
500 Mbps – 1 Gig
- Multiple 4K streams, large uploads, smart home
- 5+ devices
- Ideal for 6+ people or heavy WFH
Mbps (megabits per second) measures data rate. FCC broadband benchmarks use 25 Mbps download as a baseline for fixed service; fiber and cable plans in Sun Prairie often exceed that where plant reaches your address.

Before you order in Sun Prairie
- Use your exact address. Dane County can include multiple networks—or pockets with only one wireline option. Summaries on this page and FCC filings describe sample points, not a quote for your home.
- Check HOA and apartment rules. Bulk agreements or approved-provider lists can limit what you can install—ask the property manager if results look narrow.
- Compare technology types. Plans may be labeled cable, fiber, DSL, fixed wireless, or satellite—upload speed and latency vary. Match the plan to how you use the connection, not only headline download Mbps.
- Cross-check government data. Our FCC section below explains the one-point sample we store; the FCC National Broadband Map lets you search your address. The shopping tool above shows retail offers—they can disagree, so confirm with the ISP before you sign up.
How we use FCC broadband data
This section explains how we build the FCC provider table above for Sun Prairie. It is methodology—not a coverage map for the whole city and not a substitute for checking your street address in the comparison tool.
We take one sample coordinate per city from our dataset (the point we store in cities.json, usually a centroid or chosen coordinate—not an address you enter on this page). We query the FCC National Broadband Map API for residential provider filings at that latitude and longitude, then store the rows in fcc-broadband-by-city.json for this page. Each row is a brand + technology + reported max speeds; multiple rows per brand are normal (for example separate cable and fiber filings).
Filings describe what providers report at that point. They are not retail prices, promotional bundles, percent of homes served, or a guarantee that service can be installed at your driveway.
FCC data is provider-reported and may lag new construction, while shopping-tool results can vary by address, promotion, and provider eligibility. We use FCC data for technology and availability context, not final pricing.
Internet providers submit updated broadband availability to the FCC on a semiannual schedule—filing deadlines are typically March 1 and September 1 (or the next business day). Even after the FCC publishes a new dataset, filings can trail fiber overbuilds, new subdivisions, and retired copper plant by months.
